The digital way of building - what are the main requirements?

Facts about the ICT decrees and their importance for construction projects

When it comes to Digital Construction — and when it is mandatory to use the project web and digital tenders — in practice there are a number of requirements defined in two executive orders and their guides:

They are also known as the ICT Ordinances and describe who — and which projects — are covered by the requirements.

The Digital Builder Requirements

All companies wishing to bid for state, municipal, regional or general construction projects above certain limits must meet a number of requirements, divided into the following areas:

Quality assurance of project materials

Since 2016, the Danish Building Authority has had an internal quality assurance team that reviews the consultants' deliveries of digital project material.

Among other things, the Danish Building and Construction Authority uses the results to update the project-specific ICT specifications — and emphasises that consultants and contractors know the purpose of digital deliveries.

The Digital Building - in practice

With the introduction of the Digital Construction and ICT Ordinance, it is mandatory to use the project web and digital tenders. In addition, ICT requirements must be complied with in regional and municipal construction as well as in construction for institutions with an amount limit of DKK 20 million in estimated construction costs.

In the case of state and state-supported construction, the requirements apply to construction sums of DKK 5 million and above.
